|Description:||Obtains specimens from correct patients by venous or capillary puncture. Receives specimens into the laboratory and verifies correct sample for requested tests. Assumes responsibility for recognizing situations that need to be referred to supervisory personnel and acts accordingly.|
|Duties:||Works with syringes, needles, lancets, glass/plastic tubes and bottles, microcollection devices, stopwatches, computers, printers, telephones, and centrifuges. Requires use of specialized equipment and procedures to minimize the likelihood of exposing self or public to sources of infection or hazard. Requires venipuncture and capillary puncture skills, oral communication and organizational skills|
|Qualifications:||High school graduate, certification or eligible with a board of registry for phlebotomy preferred, but not mandatory. Minimum of 6-12 months training in hospital techniques and procedures required reaching normal productivity.|
Possesses and maintains a current Driverís License; valid to operate a motor vehicle in New York State. Possesses and maintains a driving record which is accepted by the Hospital Motor Vehicle Insurance Company to enable operation of Hospital Vehicles.
